I have to keep reminding myself of the "variant" of Epic you guys play :D.  Sentinels are awesome for IG!  Fast, good CAF, nice anti-infantry weapon.  I use them with a Commissar to hold objectives all the time.

you just play another game :D

but honest...sentinel for 100 and maybe i take them, because they could be mighty in a mass...but 150...disqualification!

I'm interested, what would you spend your 150 points on instead of Sentinels then?  I might consider Hive Gangers for the task I give them, but not much else makes sense to me to do a similar job for the points.

i would re-build my army, to split the 150 points and take more dangerous and higher cost units.

i zap...there is no question about what to do with 150 point, because i choose my army so, that i can ake all mghty things...look attached picture my next guard+marines army (remember, that we do not play the codex-army ule and so on...)

and by the way, normly the gorgon comany would not be part of my army, but because i promised myself to take new units battle by battle to paint some new models, they are partt of the army...

I never leave home without a Sentinel detachment in NetEPIC.

Excellent for killing nasty bikers that might try and flank me.

if you fight against the army above, i please you to take 6 sentinel detachments! :D

but it is a different paying 900 or 600 points for them...and in my opinion they are to expensive for 900, but a good altanative in a mass for 600.

till now no one has told me the reason why the cost has risen fom 100 to 150, because the statstics kept the same...and 100 points were ok!

points for sentinels are nice, better then marine bikes. they are only 5cm move & 1 CAF & 2 morale worse, but are decent at shooting. What's not to like?

I use mine as a reserve (this may shock the traditional bloodbath player- but yes , a reserve!), they sit near the back, to stop bikes attacking my artillery, then later can choose to CC or shoot any sneaky last turn objective captures by the enemy (you know- when your enemy parks a single rhino slightly closer to the objective than your troops :glare: )   Also good for last turn objective captures   :D  1 objective = 10 VP swing, definitely worth it.

I agree that 6 is a waste, but 2 or 3 are excellent.  For me it's about protection and objectives, not pure destructive power. Cavalry is often wasteful in VPs, if used purely to destroy units- usually giving away as much as they destroy. Of course sometimes that exchange has tactical value beyond destroying the opposing units.

p.s. you hijacked your own thread again dark angel  :D  :p

Interesting army you have there....and that's the "being polite" use of interesting. ?Very good example of why the Codex rule is important I think. ?How does the one Iron Hands company generate 2 special cards? ?I assume the "static" batteries are a use of an optional rule to reduce the costs and allow you to even further maximise your firepower....gotta say it reminds me of all Drop Pod/Teleporting/T-hawk marine armies :(. ?

I kinda struggle to see how you could take and hold more than 3 or so objectives, so a detachment of Sentinels or two would probably work like magic for you. ?Fighting that army......2 Rough Rider and 3 Beastmen companies and a pair of Reavers with a Warp Missile each....capture 6 objectives and if I get lucky with the Warps the game's over. ?5 Guild Biker companies and 2 Cyclops would be another option. ?Perhaps a Dominatrix, 5 Heirophants and a Heirodule? ?5 Samm-Hain Wind Rider Hosts and lots of Swooping Hawks?  No, I got it...3 SH Wind Rider Hosts, a Dominatrix and a couple of Heirophants!

I recently painted up my bare-bones IG army....just the units I absolutely needed to play with....there were two Sentinel detachments in there.

remember, that we do not play the codex-army ule and so on...

I think that pretty much explains everything...clearly, you and your opponents are not interested in balanced games, or unusual tactics. It's all about the most effective stats...

why do the iron hands have 2 special cards? i just see the warlord as a special card and for every specialcard i can teleport 1 detachment, right?

the codex rule doesn`t work for us. here the reasons.

1)
we alway play epic al 6 weeks. 7 armies, so 3 vs. 4. we al want to pay our own army.

2)
if the one side is guards+marines+eldar and you mean this army as a single army, then there still is a kind of codex structure. the example above means. near 2000 points iron hands + 2000 points guards + 2000 points eldar who are not listed.

3)
in al of our games, the side won, which destroyed the most opponens...capturing objectives does not matter. if you spend a lot of time capturinf objectives insted of fighting your opponents wirth mighty fre power, you can not win the game

4)
i do not like the codex rules or any other stand "army-selection rule". if i play all 6 weeks, i want to use the maximum of all my painted army, so our rule is: you have to take at least one company of a chapter, but they can go in battle together...and why not darkangels+wolfes+iron hands...all the varity in one game and so all other races too...very funny with the max on units...

we play in balance at all...every race can take what they want. but you have to take at least one company of each clan, chapter, host and so on...

but guys. the reason, why i discuss so much the cost is, tat in our last game both side had a max on fire power, armor and tsm...no "little" units on the battlefield, because they aer to expensive in relation to the them...example...350 leviathan or 300 points sentinel (2x150 sentnel)...i try to build the army so, that company card alows me to choose the leviathan...but 400 points (4x100 sentinel) could be a altanative....

Both the Warlord and "One detachments teleports from Orbit" are Special Cards.  You can take 1 special card (from the same army list obviously) for each Company card.

I'm not sure why you don't follow the rules when constructing your own army. ?Sure, you might be fighting alongside another army that you would not be able to take as allies...but that is a completely seperate army. ?Still, your game :)

I guess the 40 points from objectives don't count for much in 12000 point battles. ?They are a bit more important in the 4-5000 point games we play :D
