Ah ok. The best way to determins whether you have correct numbers and pricing for a competitive force is to make up forces (that is what I find).

If there is an initial concern over numbers (as in not enough), you have to go back to the basics of an Epic game and that is Activations. Knowong that the more you put into a formation is going to cost you potentially more activations is the balancer, and so when you see a formation (below) with 21 models in it, it may seem like 'crikey!' however then you see it costs 600 points. Put that up against a Reaver and you start to say "maybe it is not so good actually". Against the right targets it might be good however it takes a wily general to outsmart an opponent to get this to work.

Example
- Assault Swarm (9 models)
- Gaunts (6 models - 3 of these being Gargoyles)
- Malefactors (6 models)

Most likely you will either see (if selecting an Assault Swarm) the base 200 point formation taken by itself, or maybe for 300 points, you will see 3 Warriors and 12 gaunts (15 models). In Epic terms (especially with Expendable), this is a big formation that will most likley get a +1 on combat resolution even before close combat starts. Put that into the context of Lictors + Genestealers who will be up in the face of the enemy, and with Mycetic Spores hitting the planet and you suddenly have a very worrying 'cavalry' coming up to finish the job others have started.

So I guess, I am happy with the numbers so far and would hesitate to increase them or offer options to do this. At this stage anyway. :)

AAR is After Action Report.

thanks for the cards Desertdaddy

Frogbear when I get enough figs to field an army I will certainly post an AAR or Battle report with some feedback. I do that on my game blog with other games.

We are just really new to SM, my son is 11 and was looking at my gaming stuff and so lots of dusting off. Of course he wants to do nids which are the hardest to find and build on ebay. :)

anyway, Im sure we will play the old SM2 rules first and then Ill either solo it or talk him into trying EA rules, of which Im still reading, just got my book.

little overwhelmed with all the stuff on the boards and sorting out details. :)

I was just reviewing the list to develop a force for a future game and I came across some older wording that needed to be corrected (just in case it was to confuse anyone else).

Under Synapse Node special rule it states: "Only Brood Swarms may use Synapse Nodes".

This should actually read: "Only Common Swarms may use Synapse Nodes".

I will update this in the future when required.

My son and I are hoping to play a game this weekend

He has enough for almost 3500 points of Nids from 2nd edition.

He is younger and EA is a little intimidating in complexity, so we are going to play 2nd edition but when we play the EA beta list for the nids Ill post that as well.

Steve

Nice. I just read a 2nd ed battle report in an old white dwarf the other day.

You do miss the points system after every turn. It will be interesting what the result is.

In the interests of helping promote the NetEA Nid list I have:

1. Changed this thread's title to reflect it as a Fan List
2. Removed the link in my sig.

If and when the NetEA Nid list becomes a tournament ready and finished list, I will be happy to close off this thread.

Please move any interest in Nids to the NetEA developments.

Thank you
