Hi!

Are using a resin vacuum chamber psypher? If you are going to do scenery on a regular basis (or as a business), you're inevitably going to need a vacuum degassing chamber to eliminate bubbles and other such things and thus increase your quality.

The buildings themselves are fine, and I think its better they are hollow with the roof as a cap. It means building sections can be used for a lot of different styles. :)

The chamber is on my Christmas list, as is a rotocaster (unless there is a keen DIY'er out there that can build me one ;D ).

The road sections and tiles have been made, I've just got to work out how much rubber is needed per tile.

You have a pm winging its way to you :)

Another update:

Just cast the first defence line pieces...bunker to follow soon. I've made them thicker than the old FW ones...(which I've got bucket fulls of! ;) ) so are more durable and less flimsy.

What do you guys think? Feedback most welcome :)

(sorry for naff photos)

Hi. I like what you're doing.

If i have one comment its that i think you're not really taking advantage of the moulding process - ie build it once, replicate it hundreds of times.

Your models are quite plain and could be scratch built without too much difficulty with some textured plasticard and some filler. What is difficult to scratch build (quickly) is repetitive details (and make them look the same each time.) Would it be worth adding detail to your masters to make the end product more special ? For the trenches perhaps buttresses/vision slits, craning points, hatches, fixed guns, etc. Same principal for the buildings - porticos, cills, columns, ventilation machinery, material textures, escape ladders, etc.

Looking promising though.

An interesting point Blip. I'm pretty ignorant of what is involved in resin casting, would what you suggest be practical? My main concern is that resin is delicate and I'd be worried that a lot more finer pieces would be easily broken.

I will point out the FW items were resin and had plenty of little features like Blip mentions. But we're not here to recreate and ape FW. We're here to support you in making top of the line items!

I will state agreement with Blip. Those little extras will move this from a nice and usuable though very plain item to a must-have and really will see them sell I expect. Right now as they stand your value proposition is that they are a time saver for people that don't have the time to waste with some plasticard and need something good enough. Let's BAM it up now! :D

So some interesting small things you can do now:
-Crenelations. Add that as a variation to them (or better a glue on part)
-Create another straight run with a small integrated covered pillbox
-Destroyed versions of the sections
-Retaining Supports on the outside of the walls. It'll break up the flat surface and give them an interesting look.
a. This can be easily done with some .25 mm strips going horizontally and/or vertical strips to look like banding to reinforce the concrete
b. Along the base instead to make it look like a foundation which will, again, make them look a little more visually interesting
c. A diagonal support (triangle) that is dead simple

(editorial note: As they stand now the very first thing I'd add would be I-beams as supports if I purchased these as is but they probably wouldn't cast I expect)

-Add some interesting kit thrown in on the defenses on the inside. A few small crates, firing steps, tech bling or comunicators would be nice. Even better: sell them as extras that people could purchase to throw on there themselves! :D

PS That little short 45 degree sloted corner is awesome! Good idea!

Hi Blip, cheers for the feedback, much appreciated :) . I entirely agree with you, but what I wanted to do is create terrain that is very affordable and easy to reproduce for anyone who doesn't want to spend time making it. There is plenty of manufacturers of terrain with lots of detail, which takes considerably more time to produce and cost, and therefore prices are in most cases higher.

I am moving away from the solid and hollow buildings and will be selling the tiles that I make the master from as a kit form. From previous feedback, the majority of people I've spoken too want plain, basic scenery pieces that can be converted by themselves to create their own individual pieces.

I think I'm going to concentrate mostly on the current 15mm ww2 FOW style and 28mm 40K scenery I've been doing and selling on ebay etc for the last few years with some success. I will still be producing the odd 6mm piece in resin and doing the odd commission, but to be honest, until I get a laser cutter and can churn out a lot of designs cheaper in MDF, the 6mm scenery will be resin kit form tiles that the customer puts together and the odd solid cast.

Cheers :)

Hi Jimmy,

Sounds good to me. I wanted a basic set that can be customised, but the ideas for the damaged sections, tech bits etc that can be added will be done on the next sets

The buildings are going to be produced in kit form, so customisation will be easier. Plus it is easier for me to add more detail that survives my basic moulding process from a flat 2D mould rather than a solid 3D mould.

Cheers

Hi psypher, am I right in understanding that you'll be designing different sets of walls which we would buy 4 of and just glue together once received? Oh, and presumably a roof tile as well? If I'm understanding this correctly, I'm sure that would help reduce packaging and therefore postage so it seems a sensible idea!
