Had a game last night against the imperial fists, ably commanded by steve

I used netEA Biel-tan and took

2x void spinner
2x falcons (each with 2x firestorms)
2x Rangers
Warp spiders with exarch and autarch
Jetbikes
Storm serpent
Vampire
2x Mounted Guardians
Gate

Steve took:

Tacticals with razorback, hunter and supreme commander
2x devs with 2 thudd guns each, devs took bunkers and minefields instead of transports
Terminators with chaplain
Terminators with captain
Scouts with 2 razorbacks
Bastion
Land Raiders
Land Speeders
Storm Talons

Steve Deployed close to the mid-line of the table, completely blocking off his half with minefields, he garrisoned the devs in both sets of bunkers quite close to each other on the left, he set the bastion up on the other objective

Turn 1 consisted of me trying to clear the devs from the bunkers and failing a huge number of minefield tests (pretty sure the minefields accounted for most of my dead stuff!) thanks to the limitations of where minefields can be positioned relative to bunkers, I was able to firefight him from the far side of the minefields and only risked my forces when consolidating (so many dead eldar……) an air assault reduced his tacticals to 3 stands, and although I lost the vampire in the process, the warp spiders were able to engage the survivors on turn 3 and wipe them out, fortunately I didn’t need the support fire of the mechanised guardians who lost two wave serpents and four stands of guardians crossing a minefield!!

Meanwhile Steve teleported one lot of terminators into my back field and between them and his scouts, they destroyed both my void spinners and nabbed blitz and T&H, I had BTS, blitz and T&H and was able to contest my T&H with rangers for a 3-1 win on turn 3

Thoughts:

It was nice to face the IF from the other side of the table and I was setting up with no idea what I was going to do…. in the end Steve’s generally poor luck with shooting and armour saves let him down at crucial moments and I was able to use my speed to avoid his bastion and pretty much wipe his forces on the left flank out, next time he said he would take an extra set of minefields and go for a layered deployment so you have to cross them to get in range of the bunkered troops, this could have made a huge difference given just how steep a toll the minefields took on my forces…. Overall it was a fun game, my luck was pretty good and his pretty bad so if a few key assaults had gone differently we almost certainly would have ended up playing a 4th turn

I’ve got a few tweaks to the list in mind, we’re having a rematch next week so I’ll hopefully get a few of them tested

sorry for the lack of pics, I had intended to take one at the end of each turn but as ever, I got involved with the game and all documentation and picture taking went out of the window!

Thanks for the quick report. Sounds like minefields are the way to go :P

Did you have the opportunity to move cautiously through the minefields, to get the reroll?
- Also do minefields affect skimmers if they move over them but don't stop in them?

Will you be rolling out the centurions in the next game?

Yeah sorry about the lack of pics, I just start enjoying the game and pic and note taking goes out of the window....

I did move cautiously through the minefields later in the game, but when I was engaging through them or needed to double around I didnt have the option.... we played that skimmers are affected, iirc they do affect skimmers (or that is the intention)

Steve is playing them next week so I doubt we'll get to test the centurions until after xmas now....
